• The Magic premieres the musical THE OPPOSITE SEX starring Tony Award winner Karen Ziemba and an all-star Broadway cast. The playwrights this season have grown with us through our annual Virgin Play Series or are new comers to the Magic family, and we are thrilled to have such amazing artists create our 53rd Season. The Magik Theatre has been providing San Antonio’s children and their families with professional, accessible, literature-based theatre and education since 1994. John Lion was born on May 17, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. His influences were the European avant-garde, the American beats, the hippies and the "Theatre of …  His seminal plays were written and premiered during his decade-long residency, including Buried Child (Pulitzer Prize, 1979), True West (both directed by Robert Woodruff), and Fool for Love. [4] Among the other plays at the Magic in 2010 two were listed in the San Francisco Chronicle's Top Ten: Luis Alfaro's Oedipus el Rey and Liz Duffy Adams' Or. Playwright John Belluso brought physical handicap to the stage, front and center. He was an actor, known for The Right Stuff (1983). 1971. Oedipus el Rey (Legacy Revival)by Luis Alfaro, Sean San José is a Bay Area theatre maker, performer, and producer, making change and amplifying theatrical innovation for the last 25 years.  His long history with Magic is fundamentally tied to his history with theatre writ large.  Over the years, Sean has had the honor of working at Magic under Mame Hunt’s leadership and more recently under Loretta Greco’s direction in new works by Luis Alfaro, Jessica Hagedorn, Octavio Solis, and many more.Â, Sean is a Co-Founder and the current Program Director of the new performances group Campo Santo, a group that has developed, produced, and premiered nearly 100 new works for and by People of Color since 1996.  One of these works, Nogales, by Richard Montoya was a co-production and collaboration with Magic Theatre, launching Magic’s 50th Anniversary Season in 2016. Â. Sean San José is a guest lecturer and guest director at University of California Berkeley, sat on the Theatre Communications Group board of directors, and was a member of the Zellerbach Family Foundation review panel.  He is a recipient of multiple MAP fund awards, and was commissioned in the inaugural round of writers for Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Play On!
